Kathleen Gialanella, RN, ESQ, LLM is a founder of Nurse Law Academy of Continuing Education, LLC (NurseLawACE) and the company's Nurse Planner. She is a nurse and an attorney. JoAnn Pietro RN, ESQ is a founder of Nurse Law Academy of Continuing Education, LLC (NurseLawACE). She is a nurse and an attorney. Ms. Pietro is a partner in the law firm of Wahrenberger & Pietro LLP, located in Springfield, New Jersey, where she concentrates her law practice in representing health care professionals who are sued for malpractice, in licensure actions before professional boards, and in employment actions. She handles health care regulatory cases and also practices guardianship law.
Ms. Pietro holds a Diploma in Nursing from Holy Name School of Nursing, Teaneck, New Jersey, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Labor Studies from Rutgers University, and a Juris Doctorate from City University of New York School of Law. She is licensed to practice in New Jersey.
Ms. Pietro has taught nursing students as an associate adjunct professor at Felician College, Teachers College, Columbia University and Bloomfield College. Karen J. Halpern, RN, ESQ is a nurse attorney in private practice with an office in Melville New York. She is admitted to practice law in the New York State and Federal Courts. Her law practice for the past 26 years has been limited to medical malpractice defense litigation and professional licensure defense representing doctors, nurses and other health care professionals. She has lectured extensively on a variety of health law related topics including professional licensure defense and medical malpractice litigation. She is a member of many bar associations and nursing organizations and was the 2011 president of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
Ms. Brous has an extensive clinical and managerial background in OR, Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. In addition to her law degree, she holds masters degrees in Public Health and in Critical Care Nursing from Columbia University. She is part time faculty at Columbia University, and holds adjunct faculty positions at several universities teaching legal aspects of nursing. Ms. Brous has lectured and published extensively on legal issues for nurses and co-authored the textbook Law and Ethics for Advanced Practice Nurses. She is the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Advocate Award from The American Association of Nurse Attorneys.
